Avengers Review
The Avengers movie is something I considered to be either impossible to get made or would definitely get ruined by Hollywood executives. How could there be any studio that would put up the huge amount of money that would be essential to make this, who could handle the enormous task of directing this cinematic monster, could a script be made that balances out all the characters and make the plot seem feasible. Yes to all of the above.
The Avengers movie is something I was happy to be proven wrong on. It is quick, witty and abundantly action packed. Basically the Avengers are the mightiest warrior’s in the Marvel universe that fight for the side of good and when there is a threat that is too big for just Iron Man or Captain America to handle on their own the Avengers must assemble as Earths last hope.
The Avengers roster consists of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlet Johanson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), this is a huge cast of stars for one film and it would be hard not to play favorites and give one character the spotlight and leave the others in the others shadow but luckily we have a delightful screenplay that never diminishes any of the other characters for the other they all get their appropriate screen time obrolan that their entitled to.
The build-up to this movie has been like an evil mastermind ingenious master plan releasing each members own movie so that the public are aware of the characters and their fresh in their minds and building up to the big threat that will have to unite all of these heroes for the ultimate threat. I have been keeping up with the Marvel movies leading up to this on except for Thor and I regret that a bit because there are a few references that I felt would have gone down smoother if I would have seen the movie. Ow well.
The plot involves Loki (Ton Hiddleston) who is now back after, whatever happened in the Thor movie, and has now arrived back on Earth to wreak his ultimate vengeance, meanwhile Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) director of S.H.E.I.L.D. must now assemble his elite team that he has been preparing in case there would ever come a threat that no one superhero could handle and a Demigod leading an intergalactic army would probably be the situation he was thinking of. Samuel L. Jackson is an open comic book enthusiast so he must have been overwhelmed to be playing one of comics greatest spies as well as knowing to bring the right amount of seriousness and dignity to the role.
In the directing and writing chair is Joss Whedon the star creator of such hits like Firefly, Buff and Angel. He brings the perfect balance of knowing how to move the camera and ability to give motivation to his actors. Whedon balances his screenplay with fast obrolan with a good punchline that helps to lighten the mood and turn the movie into a more than a very good time. He also brings top notch action scenes that carry the emotion and glory that this experience deserves.
The real strength of the Avengers is not its action scenes, glorious as they may be, the real strength comes from the interaction of the characters and shows their strengthsand weaknesses. Iron Man is cockyand egotistical, Captain America is old fashioned in a blue collar sense, Thor also is old fashioned but in the foreign royalty sense and the Hulk/Bruce Banner is the ticking time bomb that is on the verge of destroying everything.
I never would have thought that a live action Avengers movie could have been assembled because it didn't seem like any studio would be willing to pay the money to make this monster of a blockbuster but Hollywood has seen with such hits like The Dark Knight and Spiderman that comic book movies can be very profitable and only one superhero isnt cutting it anymore.
History has been made with this movie, over five superheroes in the same movie at the same time, over two hundred million dollars being spent on it, one of the biggest cast names ever assembled in the history of the movies. When I sat in my seat there was a feeling of pure enjoyment from the effects, the punchlines and seeing their favorite character not only on the big screen but together.
Rating: 3 1/2 stars out of 4
Note: with the release of this movie and its certain success what does this mean for comic book movies? will we be treated to more fun, bigger budgeted movies based on superheroes, whats next The Justice League?
